Camera Home Security System Wireless or Not?

Because of new technology, wireless camera home security systems have become very popular.  They are easy to use and install.   The biggest consideration in incorporating cameras in your home security system is their placement.   If you have an area that needs constant monitoring, you can use wired security cameras.  However, wireless cameras are becoming more affordable and are easy to install in any location that you might need one. 

There are three main features you need to consider when deciding on a camera home security system.

            1.       Where will you place them?

            2.     Do you need black & white or color cameras?           

            3.     Hard-wired or wireless?

Placement:  All entrances to your home should be monitored.  High resolution cameras of superior quality that can record close-up shots of everyone entering your house are ideal.  Inside of your home, you should choose wide angle cameras in high traffic areas and rooms that house valuables. When properly placed, security cameras allow you to keep a record of activities in your home and you will be able to identify people more easily.  All evidence recorded on camera is extremely valuable evidence in court. 

Black and White or Color?  Black and White cameras are usually less expensive than color cameras and produce better pictures in lesser light.  Color cameras give you the advantage of identifying burglars by the color of clothes and hair.  If price is an issue, black and white cameras are better than no cameras at all.

Hard-wired or wireless?  Wireless security cameras can be easily installed without a professional.  You can move them around easily and they are very inconspicuous.  Wireless cameras can be ideal for outside.  Hard-wired cameras are best for permanent areas that need constant monitoring, hard-wired security systems that are not compatible with wireless cameras.  You need to evaluate what you are trying to monitor and choose accordingly.  Some cameras capture sound and have night vision capabilities.  Others capture still shots that are time-lapsed and not motion video.You can feed the signal from your security camera to your TV or a computer.  You can set them up so that a VCR is automatically activated to record when movement is detected.  If connected to a computer, you can monitor cameras through the internet and even be alerted with an email.

Fake or “dummy” surveillance cameras are also a popular option.  They are extremely cost effective.  Statistics show that most crimes are planned.  Burglars usually canvas an area before striking.  The major downside to robbing someone is the chance of getting caught.  If a burglar sees a camera home security system, it will deter him from choosing your house to rob.  If you give the impression that your home is prepared for a possible break in, most criminals will not be interested in taking the chance of getting caught at your house.
